This website has been created on the initiative of Salmo Fishing Club and is entirely dedicated to the pike - a wonderful fish. It has been created by and for anglers. The main purpose of the site is to propagate the Catch&Release method, as well as to support Poland's Save The Pike Campaign which was initiated by the Club's members. The "Save The Pike" Campaign is aimed at inducing the Central Board of the Polish Angling Association to introduce changes that will protect this increasingly rare predator in our waters. Accordingly, we postulate the following changes to current regulations:
![]() Join us!!! We have 6007 people supporters so far! Let's start a discussion about the worsening condition of the pike population (not only in Polish fisheries). Let's show officials the direction of changes in legal regulations that anglers worldwide expect. Authorities about pike and C&R Bertus Rozemeijer - "All my fish are put back again. We do this in Holland to protect the fishing. From each fish we take a picture. Due to this, we can trace fish back again. In many cases, one can see that a given fish is caught back two, three times a year. Each year a number of friend show their slides and so we see that - in the case of pike - some fish are caught very often. Again we learn how the fish is moving over a system, how fast it is growing, or declining, where the favorite spots of a given fish is found etc. It is stupid not to practice C&R!"Uwe Pinnau - "C&R is the only chance for us to keep our sport alive. When I compare the situation in the Netherlands and Germany - c&r here, slaughter over there- there's no need for further explanation." Pete Maina - "Some things are very clear. Over three decades of esox angling and now 5 years as release editor for Esox Angler Magazine have revealed one simple fact. Catch and release fishing is vital to the health and future of naturally-reproducing esox fisheries wherever they exist. There is no question of this. Just considering the two simple issues of population densities and the time necessary to grow to adulthood (and eventually trophy size) -- simply requires a catch and release ethic and protective regulations. There are examples all over the world with many gamefish species and fisheries, where fish stocks have been reduced significantly -- some to the point of complete non-interest from anglers. And, there are examples all over of protective regulations and proper catch and release preserving and improving esocid fisheries. There is no doubt that catch and release fishing is mandatory. And beyond that, information and education on how to properly handle catch and release is extremely important. Anglers simply having the right intentions -- to release the fish -- is not enough. Making certain as many anglers as possible have the proper tools and know the proper procedures for successful release should be a goal for all of us. I have long-believed that pike (Esox Lucius), in many places, don't receive the respect as a gamefish these great fish deserve."Campaign Save the Pike" has my full support and that of the ownership and staff of Esox Angler Magazine and The Next Bite, Inc." |
